Bio-Energy Capital Grant Scheme (available in England) This is a scheme that is available to commercial, industrial and community sectors including public and private limited companies, sole traders, farmers, local authorities, hospitals, universities, schools, housing associations, charities etc where funding is available for biomass heat boilers and combined heat and power (CHP) equipment, including anaerobic digesters.

Rural Enterprise Grant Scheme (available in West Midlands) Funding is targeted for farm businesses or members of farming households and rural micro-enterprises (a business with less than 10 employees with a turnover of less than €2 million) where the scheme funds bio-energy equipment and renewable energy installations. This includes ‘farm-scale’ anaerobic digestion and potentially composting and other forms of food waste processing. Grants are available for up to 40% of costs up to a maximum of £62,500.

Energy Crop Scheme (available in England) A scheme open to farmers and landowners that will fund 50% of the costs of establishing an energy crop, including miscanthus and short- rotation coppice.

Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 1 (available UK wide) Grants are available for the following heat generating technologies

  • Solar thermal hot water
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Air source heat pumps
  • Wood fuelled heating (biomass)

Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2 (available UK wide) The grant is available to chartable bodies and public sector buildings including schools, hospitals, housing associations and local authorities. Funding is available for up to 50% of eligible costs for solar heat generating technologies including:

  • Solar thermal
  • Heat pumps
  • Wood fuelled boilers
  • Automated pellet stoves

Feed- in Tariffs (available UK wide) Following a government consultation feed-in tariffs were introduced in April 2010. Feed-in tariffs are a mechanism to support small scale generators of renewable electricity of up to 5 MW. They offer a guaranteed price for electricity generated from a range of renewable technologies, for a guaranteed period.

EON Sustainable Energy Fund (available UK wide) A grant is available of up to £20, 000 for community groups and not-for profit organisations to implement sustainable energy projects in their buildings.
